County of Santa Cruz

The County Planning Commission will meet Tuesday, May 28 at 9:30 am in a hybrid meeting at the Board of Supervisors Chambers, Room 525, County Government Center, 701 Ocean Street in Santa Cruz. Click HERE for the agenda and instructions for public participation. Agenda items include:

  • 6. 880 41st Avenue, Santa CruzProposal to construct a seven-unit hotel and associated improvements on a vacant parcel adjacent to 860 41st Avenue. Project includes the construction of 6,025 square foot, three story structure with five units and a 2,180 square foot, three story structure with two units and a manager’s office. Requires a Commercial Development Permit, a Coastal Development Permit, a Variance to reduce the rear yard setback for the north building from 30-feet to 28.6-feet, a Variance to reduce the rear yard setback for a storage shed from 30-feet to 16-feet, an Alternative Parking Plan proposed by the applicant, and a determination that the project is exempt from further review pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Property is located on the east side of 41st Avenue, approximately 300 feet north of the intersection of 41st Avenue and Portola Drive (880 41st Avenue).
  • 7. Study session to consider an ordinance implementing Senate Bill 9, allowing two-unit developments and urban lot splits.
  • 8. Study session to review the proposed Ministerial Combining District. This item is continued from the May 8, 2024 Planning Commission Meeting.

FY 2025 Proposed BudgetConduct the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Budget Hearings, receive information from staff for the City’s requested budget across all departments and the Capital Investment Program, and provide feedback for preparation of the FY 2025 Adopted Budget.   • 1130/1132 Mission StreetAppeal of the Planning Commission Approval of the Development Proposal at 1130/1132 Mission Street Involving Nonresidential Demolition Authorization Permit to Demolish Two Commercial Buildings, Boundary Adjustment to Combine Two Parcels, and a Design Permit, Special Use Permit, Watercourse Development Permit, and Heritage Tree Removal Permit to Construct a Five-Story Mixed-Use Building Consisting of 2,627 Square Feet of Ground Floor Commercial Space and 48 Single Room Occupancy (SRO) Residential Units Above. The Project Also Includes a Request for Density Bonus Including Waivers to Exceed Building Height, Setbacks, and Floor Area Ratio (FAR), as well as Proposes to Utilize AB2097 to Reduce On-Site Parking. The Parcels Are Both Located in the CC (Community Commercial)/MU-M (Mixed-Use Medium Density) Zone District and the Mission Street Overlay Zone.
